IPOH, June 21 -- A new tower will be built by telecommunications company Maxis in Kampung Sungai Samak, Bagan Datuk under the National Digital Network (JENDELA) plan which is expected to be completed in April 2022.

Work to upgrade an existing tower will be carried out by Celcom at the location of the nearest tower in Kampung Sungai Samak and is expected to be completed in September. Various efforts are being made to ensure connectivity problems in the area can be addressed immediately.

A meeting between the Perak branch of the MCMC and representatives of service providers comprising Celcom, Digi and Maxis with Sungai Samak village head, Ahmad Hilmi Yunus was held last Saturday to get an overview of the problems faced by the locals, said the statement.

Local newspapers had previously reported that unstable Internet access in Kampung Sungai Samak prompted residents in several villages in the area to use 'boosters' mounted on long poles or oil palm frond pruning rods to increase signal strength.

Residents said they had no choice but to use a long pole up to 40 feet high due to poor Internet access which affected their children to follow Home-based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) lessons.

The statement also said that students in these villages can use the Community Internet Center located within a 2.5-kilometre radius to continue PdPR sessions besides utilising the facilities provided at the internet centre during the Movement Control Order (PKP) 3.0 period.
