PETALING JAYA: U Mobile Sdn Bhd has signed a 5G access agreement with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), making 5G services available to its customers.
The mobile network operator said its postpaid and prepaid subscribers will be able to enjoy the benefits of 5G connectivity on compatible devices beginning Nov 3.
“U Mobile is supportive of the government’s vision of a single wholesale network for 5G deployment, whereby all operators will have access to the same network without differentiation in terms of speed and quality,” U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck said in a statement.
“We believe the combination of our award winning and consistent 4G network with DNB’s 5G network will make for a seamless and unbeatable connectivity experience,” he added.
U Mobile said it had a wide range of postpaid and prepaid plans to make 5G services accessible to all.
DNB, a special purpose vehicle owned by the finance ministry, has been tasked with driving the 5G infrastructure in Malaysia.
Four mobile network operators — Telekom Malaysia, Digi Telecommunications, YTL Telecommunications and Axiata-Celcom — have signed on for a combined 65% stake in DNB.
U Mobile had held out on taking a stake but has now signed on to subscribe to the 5G service.
